ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF POLYGYROS
The Archaeological Museum of Polygyros includes representative archaeological finds from Chalkidiki, which present the significant cultural history from the prehistoric times. In the Museum vestibule are displayed a number of inscribed monuments and reliefs from the Classical and Hellenistic periods: some of the epigraphic testimonia come from marble and poros gravestones, while others are contracts for the sales of houses or vineyards, inscribed on stone. Of special interest is part of a votive relief from Potidaia, of the 4th century B.C. The picture is completed by characteristic items of local painted or undecorated pottery, as well as imported - Attic and Corinthian - pottery, and bronze and silver jewellery. They date from the Archaic and Classical periods and come from collections donated by residents of Polygyros with an interest in the ancient world.
